The exact origin of candy canes is not clear. However, there are certain beliefs that candy canes were invented around 250 years ago in Germany. According to this legend, these canes were created to help keep children calm and quiet when church service was on.

The hook and stripes on the candy were introduced in the 1900s. Before that, they were simply white candy canes.

Some of the largest producers of candy canes, such as Martinsville Candy Kitchen, can prepare around 600 canes on a daily service, especially around Christmas. They are all made by hand.

Even though there is a range of flavors for candy canes, the most traditional of them all is peppermint. Some of the other flavors that you would enjoy apart from peppermint include coal, wasabi, clam, rotisserie chicken, gravy, pickle, bacon, and many more.
