Does Rice Wine Vinegar Need To Be Refrigerated?

Vinegar is an acidic liquid that never misses in food lovers’ homes. In most of the dressings for meats, fish, or simple salads, a teaspoon of vinegar can be the last touch that connects all the ingredients and taste with its acidity.

Rice wine vinegar is the vinegar used more in Japanese cuisine like sushi and other marinades. So if you buy it to have it in your home, you may ask if does rice wine vinegar need to be refrigerated?

Shelf life

Before responding if the rice vinegar should be refrigerated, I will write a little about the vinegar’s shelf life.

Vinegar is one of the products with the most extended shelf life due to the created acetic acid compounds. So metaphorically, I would say you can consume a vinegar bottle forever.

This is not entirely true, but you can surely consume it for at least three years. To do so, the vinegar needs to be stored properly.

This means in a dark place in an airtight glass bottle. The due date in the bottles only shows when the vinegar stays in perfect conditions regarding the appearance, like color and taste.

On the other hand, the quality is not affected and can be consumed.

Refrigeration

Rice Wine Vinegar has preservation compounds, so it can be kept outside safely. The best way to know if the rice wine vinegar needs to be refrigerated is to carefully read the bottle’s instructions.

Refrigerating rice white vinegar is not a common practice, so if a specific type needs to be refrigerated, it will be written in the packaging.

You don’t need to put the white wine vinegar in the fridge in all other cases. A dark and cold place is enough as a good environment.
